"Fascinating...a wonderful song!"

"Well done...tells the story well!"
~Nashville Songwriters Association International
November 18. 2010, Streator, IL - It's been just over two years since the IAU (International Astronomical Union) downgraded Pluto to a dwarf planet. While many songs have been written about this debate and subsequent ruling, a pair of songwriters from Illinois decided to write a song celebrating Pluto's discoverer, Clyde Tombaugh, and NASA's New Horizons Mission to Pluto.
Kevin Elias, a lifelong Streator, IL, resident, and songwriting partner Richard Fey, Bourbonnais, IL, don't recognize the IAU ruling. Rather, they have written a Tribute Song entitled "New Horizons", honoring Tombaugh by recognizing his great discovery of the Planet Pluto in 1930. Also being honored in this song is the vision of NASA for the New Horizons spacecraft on it's 9 year voyage to the planet Pluto and beyond (expected to reach Pluto by July 2015).
Kevin heard Dr. Alan Stern, Principal Investigator for the New Horizons mission to Pluto, speak about this mission and the lifelong accomplishments of Tombaugh. Amazed at the idea of Tombaugh's ashes being on board the spacecraft, and the fact that Tombaugh grew up on a farm near Streator, Kevin suggested the idea of a song about Tombaugh and the mission to Richard. The result...the song "New Horizons" was created.
